Soft tissue ultrasound is an informative and painless screening method that allows examining the subcutaneous fat layer, lymph nodes, muscles, tendons, ligaments and other components of the human body that do not belong to the category of internal organs, for which there are separate types of examination. Most frequently, there is a need to examine the soft tissues of the neck, abdomen, face, back and hips, both to specify the extent of damage and for concomitant diagnosis of different types of diseases. So, what are the indications for soft tissue ultrasound and when is it done?
Ultrasound of the soft tissues of face and neck:
- after plastic surgery;
- if cysts and neoplasms are suspected;
- lumps of uncertain origin;
- if abscess, phlegmon, lymphostasis or myositis are suspected;
- inflammation.
Ultrasound of the soft tissues of abdomen and back:
- injuries, bruises, swelling, hernias;
- postoperative conditions and complications;
- lumps of uncertain origin;
- if abscess, phlegmon, lymphostasis or myositis are suspected;
- inflammation.
Ultrasound of the soft tissues of the inguinal region:
- bruises, sprains, injuries;
- malignant and benign masses;
- if abscess, phlegmon or lymphostasis are suspected;
- lumps of uncertain origin;
- inguinal hernia, tumour, hemorrhage.
Ultrasound of the soft tissues of legs or arms:
- bruises, fractures, dislocations, hematomas;
- pain with no visible causes;
- abscess, phlegmon, lymphostasis or myositis are suspected;
- if femoral hernia is suspected;
- arm pain and discomfort when moving;
- pain and discomfort when walking.
