Many people associate their scalp problems with the hair. They buy products for dry or oily hair, while the problem is actually in the scalp.
What is dry scalp?
Does your scalp feel tight, itchy and dry? If so, your scalp is probably very dry.
Dry scalp can be caused by different factors, the most common of which are age-related changes, stress factors, heredity, use of aggressive hair care products, extreme temperature changes and poor nutrition.
With dry scalp, the process of skin renewal is disrupted, which leads to loss of moisture and dryness.
What is oily scalp?
Does your hair become greasy a few hours after washing? Do you have to wash it every day? If so, you have an oily scalp.
With an oily scalp, the sebaceous glands produce too much sebum, an oily substance that protects against infections and bacteria.
Excessive sebum production by the sebaceous glands can cause clogged hair follicles and sebum buildup. This, in turn, leads to inflammation and redness of the scalp, itching and flaking, which can even lead eventually to hair loss.
The main cause for overproduction of sebum on the scalp is genetic predisposition, i.e. we are born with a certain skin type inherited from our parents. Besides, such conditions as hormonal imbalance (most often, overproduction of male sex hormones), excessive consumption of foods with a high glycemic index, stress and improper hair care products can cause or increase oily skin.
We invite you to our Berehynia Medical Center for a consultation with a trichologist for scalp treatment and selection of proper hair care products.
