Suspicion of a malignant tumour is a direct indication for laboratory testing of soft tissue samples. One of the effective methods is core needle biopsy, a procedure performed when the results of ultrasound or mammography are unclear. It is mainly performed for the breast examination, but is also suitable for soft tissue examination, evaluation of abnormality and stage of disease.

What Is the Advantage of Core Needle Biopsy Compared to Other Diagnostic Methods?

Cancer in general and malignant tumours of the breast in particular are a common problem and a leading cause of death. According to the experts, the disappointing statistics is due to the impact of a large number of negative factors, including an increase number of carcinogens in food and care products, as well as chronic stress. In the past, medicine could not offer effective methods for early diagnosis of cancer, nowadays, however, the situation is different.

Core needle biopsy is a puncture performed using a hollow needle in a biopsy gun. The material is taken under ultrasound guidance or stereotactic mammography. This technique, unlike other types of puncture, allows extracting a sufficient amount of biological material, an entire column of cells. Thanks to this, it is possible to conduct a full histological examination, the informative value of which exceeds 90%. It should be noted that the information obtained is extremely valuable for the doctor, since it has a direct impact on the effectiveness of preoperative treatment.
