Main/ Services/ Ambulatory Gynaecology/ Radio frequency punch biopsy of the vulva

Punch biopsy of the vulva is a modern method for diagnosing dermatological and oncological diseases of female external genital organs. Using a special instrument, a sample of skin is taken for testing for diagnostic purposes.

A significant advantage of punch biopsy is that this method allows obtaining a piece of skin of sufficient depth for adequate histological examination. This, in turn, ensures high quality diagnostics and maintains a good cosmetic result.

How is the procedure done?

A punch biopsy is carried out under a local anaesthetic.

The material is taken with a special tool with a cutting edge. The site of biopsy is disinfected. The cutting tool plunges into the required depth into the skin and cuts off a round section of tissue. A section of skin is separated from deeper tissues and sent to the laboratory.

It is NOT recommended to douche, have sex, use tampons and inject any medication into the vagina immediately before the procedure.
