A cervical biopsy is performed if abnormal changes were detected on the surface of the cervix or in the thickness of its tissue during a gynaecological examination.

A small piece of the mucous membrane is taken from the cervix during a biopsy for further histological examination in the laboratory.

By staining the sample using special methods and with the help of special markers, specialists examine it to detect malignant and precancerous tumors. The test results either confirm or deny the abnormal or precancerous conditions.

Thanks to this testing method and its effectiveness, it is possible to detect cancer at an early stage and choose the most effective method of treatment.

Factors indicating the risk of precancerous and malignant neoplasms include:

  • presence of iodine-negative areas during colposcopy;
  • individual areas of the epithelium turning white after the application of acetic acid solution;
  • unsatisfactory cytology smear results and/or the presence of oncogenic strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV) in the body.

If the above symptoms are detected during the examination, we recommend undergoing a cervical biopsy at Berehynia Medical Center, as we use the most modern equipment that allows us conducting a loop biopsy, a painless and minimally invasive technique.

How to prepare for the procedure?

Preparation for the procedure includes a medical examination aimed at identifying concomitant diseases, infections and inflammations.

Your doctor will tell you more about preparing and taking additional tests in accordance with your medical record.

All necessary laboratory tests can be taken directly at our Medical Center the day before the biopsy.

The following is not recommended after a cervical biopsy:

  • sexual intercourse during the first 2-3 weeks;
  • excessive physical activity and stress;
  • visiting saunas, swimming pools, swimming in open water;
  • taking certain medications that affect blood clotting;
  • using vaginal suppositories;
  • douching.

Follow all recommendations of your doctor!
